Clean Water for Al Geneina Girls' School

The completed hand-pump well at Al Geneina Girls' School, West Darfur, funded through the 2021 Sudan Child Fund in partnership with The Wishing Well Company.

In West Darfur State, access to clean water shapes whether girls can stay in school. During Ramadan 2021, SDN's Sudan Child Fund set out to change that for one school community.

Working with The Wishing Well Company, a registered non-profit, SDN funded the construction of a hand-pump well at the Al Geneina Girls' School. The $4,100 raised covered a sustainable, locally maintainable water source — the kind of infrastructure that turns a daily struggle into something children no longer have to think about.

The well was one of several projects funded that Ramadan, alongside school rehabilitation, a malnutrition healthcare centre, and the Maygoma Orphanage playground. Together they reflected a single idea: that diaspora giving works best when it reaches grassroots partners who know exactly what their community needs.

The pump now stands finished, serving the school's students daily.
